Biography of Prafulla Chandra Roy

Prafulla Chandra Roy was born in 1861 in Khulna, now in Bangladesh. He received his early education at village pathsala, Hare School, and Albert School, and passed his entrance examination in 1879. He then studied at Metropolitan College and won the Gilchrist Scholarship in 1882, which took him to London. He earned his B.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees from Edinburgh University. In 1889, Roy became a Professor at Presidency College. He was the first to prepare Mercurous Nitrite in 1896 and established Bengal Chemicals in 1901. Roy joined Science College as Palit Professor and passed away in 1944.
