Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is one of the greatest patriots and revolutionary leaders in India's struggle for independence. He was born on 23rd January 1897 at Cuttack in Odisha to Janakinath Bose, a renowned advocate, and Prabhavati Devi. A brilliant student from childhood, Subhas studied at Ravenshaw Collegiate School and Scottish Church College, Kolkata. In 1920, he stood fourth in the prestigious Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination in England but bravely resigned from the lucrative post to serve his motherland.

Inspired by Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, he plunged into the freedom movement and was elected President of the Indian National Congress in 1938 and 1939. Later, he founded the 'Forward Bloc'. Placed under house arrest by the British, he made his miraculous 'Great Escape' in 1941. In Singapore, he revitalized the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj) and fought valiantly against British forces. His stirring slogans, "Jai Hind" and "Give me blood, and I will give you freedom," ignited the nation. Though reported to have died in an air crash in 1945, Netaji remains immortal in every Indian heart.
