Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of the authorities to the menace caused by the indiscriminate use of plastic carry bags.

Despite official bans, non-biodegradable plastic bags are openly used everywhere. When thrown away carelessly, they choke underground drains, causing severe waterlogging and mosquito breeding during the monsoon. Moreover, plastic reduces soil fertility, pollutes water bodies, and causes the death of stray cattle that swallow them with food waste.

Therefore, I urge the municipal authorities to enforce a strict ban on single-use plastics and promote eco-friendly jute or cloth bags immediately.
