Dankuni, January 18: Five passengers were killed on the spot and twenty others were critically injured in a horrific road accident on NH-19 near Dankuni early this morning at 6:30 a.m.
According to eyewitnesses, a speeding private bus tried to overtake recklessly amidst dense winter fog, lost control, and collided head-on with a loaded lorry coming from the opposite direction, mangling the front of the bus.
Locals and police immediately rescued the victims and rushed them to the Sub-Divisional Hospital. Traffic was disrupted for two hours. The government has announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh for the bereaved families.
