THE HONESTY OF A POOR RICKSHAW-PULLER

Once a poor rickshaw-puller named Ramen lived in a small town. Though poverty-stricken, he was a man of great honesty. One evening, after dropping an elderly passenger at the railway station, Ramen noticed a leather bag lying on the back seat of his rickshaw. Opening it, he found fifty thousand rupees and important documents. Tempted for a moment, he soon remembered his moral values and handed the bag over to the local police station. The anxious owner, who had arrived there to lodge a diary, was overwhelmed and offered Ramen a cash reward. However, Ramen politely refused the money and accepted only his blessings.

Moral: Honesty is the best policy.

গল্পটির বাংলা ভাবার্থ: এক ছোট শহরে রামেন নামে এক দরিদ্র রিকশাচালক বাস করত। দরিদ্র হলেও সে ছিল অত্যন্ত সৎ মানুষ। একদিন সন্ধ্যায় এক বয়স্ক যাত্রীকে রেল স্টেশনে নামিয়ে দেওয়ার পর রামেন দেখতে পায় তার রিকশার পেছনের সিটে একটি চামড়ার ব্যাগ পড়ে রয়েছে। ব্যাগটি খুলে সে দেখে তাতে পঞ্চাশ হাজার টাকা এবং কিছু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কাগজপত্র রয়েছে। মুহূর্তের জন্য প্রলুব্ধ হলেও সে তার নীতিবোধ মনে রেখে সোজা স্থানীয় থানায় গিয়ে ব্যাগটি পুলিশের হাতে তুলে দেয়। সেই সময় ব্যাগের মালিক থানায় ডায়েরি করতে এসেছিলেন। তিনি ব্যাগটি ফিরে পেয়ে আনন্দিত হয়ে রামেনকে নগদ পুরস্কার দিতে চাইলেন। কিন্তু সৎ রামেন বিনয়ের সাথে সেই টাকা প্রত্যাখ্যান করল এবং কেবল তাঁর আশীর্বাদ গ্রহণ করল।
