Editorial Letter: Irregular Garbage Clearance and Waterlogging | Class 9

I would deem it a great privilege if you kindly allow me a column in your esteemed and widely circulated daily to ventilate our acute grievances regarding the deplorable sanitary conditions caused by irregular garbage clearance and rampant waterlogging in Ward No. 18 of our municipality.

For the past several weeks, the municipal conservancy staff have been exceptionally neglectful. Piles of solid domestic refuse and rotting biodegradable waste are left unattended along street corners for days on end. Stray dogs, cattle, and swarms of flies forage through the filth, emitting an unbearable foul stench that permeates through nearby residences. To aggravate matters, even a moderate spell of rain causes filthy water to overflow choked open drains, submerging the roads in knee-deep contaminated slush. Schoolchildren, daily commuters, and elderly citizens are stranded inside their homes. Furthermore, the stagnating water has transformed our area into a hazardous breeding sanctuary for Anopheles and Aedes mosquitoes, triggering an alarming spike in mosquito-borne dengue and malaria outbreaks.

Despite several written representations submitted by local residents to the municipal council, no remedial actions have been undertaken so far. I sincerely hope that the publication of this letter will rouse the competent higher authorities from their bureaucratic slumber to initiate prompt desiltation of drains and ensure daily clearance of garbage vats before a devastating epidemic breaks out.
