Once an old farmer lived in a village with his four sons. The sons always quarrelled among themselves, which made the father very sad.
One day, the farmer fell seriously ill. Realising his end was near, he called his sons to his bedside. He handed them a bundle of sticks tied together and asked each son to break it. Each brother tried with all his strength, but failed.
Then the father untied the bundle and gave a single stick to each son. They snapped the sticks easily. The father said, “If you remain united like the bundle, nobody can harm you; but if you divide, you will fall.” The sons realised their mistake and promised to live peacefully.
